An Herb Garden in a Single Pot

I love to cook with fresh herbs, but I hate the expense and waste of buying those little packages of herbs and only using a sprig or two. For about the same cost as a package of herbs at the supermarket, you can buy a 3″ or 4″ herb plant that will last for months. I like to plant herbs in a strawberry pot because it takes up very little space and provides an entire herb garden in a single pot!
Strawberry pots have a dozen or so openings, each one just the right size for an herb. With just a little sun and water, you can clip fresh herbs for months!

This is one of my favorite recipes for entertaining which uses a variety of fresh herbs:
Fresh Herb Dip
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 tablespoon chopped dill
1 tablespoon chopped chives
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
a 1-inch square of bleu cheese, crumbled
salt and pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Chill for 1/2 hour or longer to allow flavors to blend. Serve with fresh veggies or chips. Also delicious as a topping on baked potatoes.
Thanks for the post. I love this idea. What are some good herbs to plant this time of year in California?
Since it’s still the cool season, parsley, cilantro, thyme, chives are good choices. Also oregano and rosemary if it you dont get frost. Wait until warmer weather for basil and sage.
Hi Teena,
I am having a difficult time finding a strawberry pot.
Can you make a recommendation on where to buy?
Thank you for your blog / website.

I’ve purchased them at Home Depot, Lowes, Armstrongs and Green Thumb. Havent bought one in a year or two, though, so not sure who carries them now.
